Bringing back the Murphy Bed...

First of all, Jay is an amazing carpenter, electrician, painter, designer...he is talented in so many areas that I am definitely NOT.  He, along with his dad and best friend, has completed projects that would take "normal" men days, or even years.  And they are always perfect!!

When my sister told me that she was looking at a Murphy Bed for her guest room, I immediately thought that it would be the perfect solution to our constant dilema of not-enough-space.  Looking at Murphy Beds online, the prices ranged from $1200-4500 for some of the more intricately built models--way beyond a newlywed couples budget for a guestroom.  BUT.  I have a Jay.  A Jay that started planning right away.  Quickly we found that a kit for a bed of this type was about $299.  The only extra cost would be the plywood, paint, trim, and knobs etc.  And so they began...

And then....

There it is!  The Murphy Bed.  With a full size mattress already folded in to it!

Lilly thinks that it is a giant dog bed built just for her....

And it's almost done.  As of now this is what it looks like:

All that is left to do is to add some more decorative knobs, etc.  On the other side of the room he built us a desk that I painted a milk chocolate brown with gold flecks in it! (sounds terrible, but it really is fantastic!)
No one has slept in our Murphy Bed yet, but the whole family is already excited about visiting!
